April 2021
April 2019My name is Traejan Andrews, I was born in Arizona, where my passion for golf began. There is not a time in my memory when I wasn't in love with the game. My passion for the sport began when my grandfather, being retired in Arizona, started taking me to the course before I could even walk. At the age of four, my best friend was my grandpa's 55-year old playing partner named Josh; it was a blast getting to know the "old boys" on the golf course. I loved the game so much my parents had to drag me off the course and that is still true today. Once I got to around the age of 7 and began beating the majority of the guys I was playing with, it was 100% decided that I wanted to play competitively. Yet, even with my passion for the game at a very young age, I would get overcome with frustration when I played when I didn't meet the high expectations I have for my game. These emotions took many years and a lot of maturity to overcome. Now, at 17 years old, I have learned how to play the game with a calm and positive mindset. Being part of the Hale Irwin Elite Player Program and the mentorship of the Vision54 team has given me the strategies I needed to develop the mindset to play my best golf. There are many aspects of my game that I am very proud of, including my power off the tee box, accuracy with mid to long irons, and precision shots from the bunker. I really enjoy the challenge of hitting tough shots and using my creativity to get out of tough situations.
After a strong finish to my summer season at The Bridges AJGA event, shooting 75-68-73 (+3), I am looking forward to competing in The Gobbler at Sewailo Golf Club against a strong field of college golfers. Academically, my goal is to complete high school with a 3.5 GPA or above, and while I don't know the exact course I would like to pursue, I am very interested in engineering and architecture.
