Abby Sears '15 Recruiting Profile

My name is Abby Sears, that doesn't mean anything, but what I'm about to tell you will. Here is my short story. I've always loved running. I won my first road race at 6, the Junior Bix (Davenport, IA), and I've never stopped competing. I was a member of the Mississippi Valley Track Club for four years, three of which I progressed to Nationals (AAU, USATF). The first year my 4x800 team took 8th place, the second year we took 2nd place, the third year we took 5th, and I also placed 9th in the individual 800.

I have made the varsity team in both cross country and track and field all four years of high school. This year I was team captain for cross country and will be team captain for track as well. Each year my times have improved, and I believe that I have not reached my full potential. I wish to excel at the collegiate level.

One of my proudest moments was during my junior year when I was named Athlete of the Week in the Quad City Times. This is what my coach Erin Flynn had to say "After graduating our top three runners from last fall, Abby has stepped in to lead our team and be our number one runner at every meet. She has lowered her personal best by over 15 seconds and has raced to two top six finishes in the MAC conference and regional meets. She has been a role model to our younger athletes."

I also like to challenge myself academically. I have taken numerous advanced level classes, received my academic letter all three years, and I am involved in the National Honors Society at my school. I plan to obtain my doctorate degree in Physical Therapy. Working with the training staff at school has taught me how to be the best that I can be and I want to do the same for others.
