Being an athlete has helped me through tough times and pushed me to strive for success in all aspects of my life. For eight years I was a competitive gymnast but quit in 2016 when my family moved for my fathers job. I first struggled with my new environment, losing my will to work and my drive for success. My grades suffered and I stayed antisocial and kept to myself. During my sophomore year I joined the track team and my life was changed forever. I fell in love with high jump and jumped 5 feet by my third meet. I regained the work ethic I had lost and not only did my track performance improve, but my grades and test scores did as well. While I have only done track for a year, I believe I have learned so much and feel that this is only the beginning. I have been voted captain for both the indoor and outdoor seasons of my senior year and hope to inspire and impact those around me. Through track and field I have learned lessons that I apply in my everyday life from the track to the classroom. I hope to one day carry these lessons to a college track and field program.
