I wasn’t introduced to track until my older sister asked me if I was interested in joining our high school track team. Since it was my first time running track I struggled with speed endurance and correcting my running form. I ended up loving the sport when our 4x100m team was qualifying for states for three years, and I wanted to go further than just states. With the help and communication of my coach and captain’s I've managed to improve my form and gain some endurance. As my last year of high school track and field is approaching my goal is to meet the qualifying time for Nationals.
My parents, three siblings, and I immigrated to America from Congo 14 years ago. They work their hardest for me and my siblings to get a better education and provide us with things they weren't able to have access to back in Congo. Knowing that my parents work so hard for me and my siblings motivates me to also work hard in my academics and athletics.
Now starting my fourth year as one of the team captains I plan on becoming a leader as I was taught in MCJROTC. Everyday I learn how to become a good leader through the program by recognizing my weaknesses and seeking self improvement. I encourage my teammates even when they fail because there is always room for improvement.
