Personal Statement

I believe that the way people are brought up and raised plays a huge role in your life. How you act, how you think, and overall your mindset in general. Growing up, I am lucky enough to have parents who taught me most everything of what I know now, and helped shape the person I have become today.  My parents told me when I was really young, “Never rely on somebody else to do something for you. Not everything is handed to you so if you want something, you have to work for it and earn it yourself.”  Even as a young kid this inspired me and since then I have always been independent and have worked hard for what I want. I look at myself now, only a freshman in high school, and I am just blown away by how far I have come in my short life.

Academically, I always turn my work in on time and rarely miss a day of school. In both middle and high school I have never been below high honors. I strive to keep my grades up, and if one drops even a tiny bit, that motivates me to work even harder. I manage my time efficiently and always work my hardest. Athletically, I am a four sport athlete. These being karate, basketball, track, and cross country. That being said, I focus most of my time on running.

I started cross country in seventh grade as just something to do since I didn’t have another sport to play. That ‘just something to do’ turned into one of the biggest aspects of my life. Within my running career I have had many ups and downs as all runners do, but within that I have put in the time and effort and have continually improved over the three years. In seventh grade I was the second fastest on my team.

Over the summer going into eighth grade I joined a six week camp with all high schoolers and saw myself going in an upward direction. In eighth grade I came in first at 90% of my races, and when it came to states I tied for eighth out of 102 girls. Because of that, I got invited to an elite summer camp with twenty of the best high school runners in the state.

Going into freshman year, I was nervous, although ready to take on the challenge. I bounced between third and second fastest on the team. Our girls team made it not only to States, but the Meet of Champions. At States I came in 27th out of 100 girls, and at the Meet of Champions I came in 64th out of 150 girls, making me the seventh fastest freshman in the state of New Hampshire. My personal record was 21:30. Going into track I am going to be running the mile, in which I have a personal record of 5:59. I will also be participating in the 4x800, which I have never run before.

I envision my college years to be a period of personal growth and self improvement. Since I was a child I have gone through many different jobs that I would like to do when I grow up, including  a veterinarian and a surgeon. I want my future job to be something I’m highly interested in. Seventh grade is when I found myself sparked by criminal justice and/or law enforcement. Therefore, my future goal is to go into criminology. Athletically, I plan to run cross country. I am dedicated and motivated to become a stronger runner and a positive influence to the team. As I grow both mentally and physically throughout my college career, I will strive to improve.  Most importantly I will conduct myself with discipline, honor and respect wherever I may be, knowing that the way I carry myself reflects on my team, my coaches, and the school I attend.
