Personal Statement
For two years of my life, I had been out of playing sports because of injuries. I was still myself, but I was not whole. I attempted to fill the hole of who I was, because when you have back to back ACL injuries, your first thought as an athlete is “ Will I ever be that good again?” During that time, I dove into my academics and made it my goal to be at the top of my class academically, since I was no longer at my peak of physical ability.
The day I realized that I could still fill that hole within me, was the day I ran my first 4x100m relay in high school. I knew I was nowhere near the best with my slow split, but the pure feeling of freedom I had while running told me I could do more. This feeling powers me through each and every race, including my relays at both the NJ Meet of Champions and at New Balance Nationals. This feeling now pushes me to become not only a collegiate runner, but a student on the track. This feeling is why I want to run on your team.
