Personal Statement
Hello my name is LaKyla Yazzie,
I’ve been running since the 5th grade and been in love with it ever since!
I run both XC and Track with a little bit of basketball on the side. I wouldn’t be able to answer the question of “do you prefer XC or Track?” Both sports have their perks. I love the trails that XC has to offer but I also love the energy that the Track radiates.
One unique thing about me is that I take my academics as serious as I take my sport. I’m a team leader as well. I know when there’s a time to laugh and a time when I have to be serious.
On a side note, my running career wasn’t so great from my freshman year to the beginning of my senior year because I was anemic. Sadly I didn’t discover I was anemic until my senior year. Which explains why my times went down so drastically from my eight grade to senior year. But throughout that time period I learned how to lose and how to come back from it. My character was solely built into the person I am today because of that incident, which I feel turned me into a responsible leader. I can relate with runners on my team who are struggling themselves and help to lift them up.
Now that I’ve learned so much through running I feel like I am capable enough to take running to the next level and running in college.
