I am a cross country and (winter) track athlete from Shelter Island, New York and will graduate in 2018. For the past three years in cross country, I have served as a team captain, and have earned both the county championship title and All-League Honors, along with 3rd team all-county sophomore year. In track, I have broken many of our school records. I have a 4.0 GPA.
I became interested in running when my school created a running club when I was in 7th grade. At this time our school had neither a track or cross country team, so we had to travel to alternative places to race. Despite the extra travel time, I have remained committed to running and I believe that this commitment could make me an asset to a college team. My school now has cross country and winter track programs, but we still do not have a spring track program.
I am looking for an institution with both a rigorous academic program and a competitive athletic team. I am currently undecided in my choice of major. Ideally, my athletic environment would be one where I could make an impact as part of the team. One of my goals would be to be one of the team’s top five runners before graduating. Coming from a very small school, I look forward to running at a school with other runners of my ability, and competing in highly competitive races.
