Personal Statement
I discovered my passion for running in elementary school when I tried out for our local kids 4x100 relay among all of Salem's elementary schools. I enjoyed and continue to enjoy being fast. Running makes me feel free! I have this track focus for my life and hope to pursue an Olympic running career. I joined a track team in 6th grade and that is when my running really took off. I started catching the eye of many coaches and it made me feel even better and more confident of my talent and what maybe in store for me. During 7th grade my family knew I was really good at running and they put me into Track Town USA events and I was able to run against some other girls that were fast as well. Once I got into high school that is when I really started being competitive with track. I started looking at other track and field athletes across the nation and seeing their marks to figure out what I could do to be faster and stronger.
My family has always supported my running and have always had the goal for me to go to college. I really want to study Kinesiology or Athletic Training. I want to do this because I have a passion for the athletic world. I love being around athletes and helping people get better. I'm working on raising my GPA to help the team overall GPA and to be an Honor Roll student.
Track isn't the only thing that I am good at. I am also very good at writing and public speaking. Someday I hope to be an inspirational speaker. I'm also involved in youth group at my church on Wednesday nights and a prayer group on Tuesdays followed by regular service on Sundays. I am involved with AVID at my school which is a program to help students achieve their college dreams as well as preparing us for college academically. I have been with the same AVID class for 4 years and it's really taught me a lot about what it means to be a team and what strengths we each have individually. Overall I really want to achieve my college dream of running track in college and obtaining a degree to help me help other athletes achieve their dreams.
