Personal Statement

I am a focused and driven athlete.  My priorities are God, family, academics and my contribution as a student athlete.  I believe I have been blessed with a gift in my athleticism, and plan to use this gift to further my education and my joy in competing at a collegiate level.  My character strengths are attentive behavior in the classroom and on the field, accountability for my actions and performance, and a focused dedication to whatever I set my mind to.

My greatest challenge this high school season has been the ability to meet my goals while dividing my focus during limited practice time.  My high school team needed me to compete in four events at each dual meet/invitational, and this resulted in a rushed meet environment, and a rushed practice schedule.  I look forward to club season with a longer practice schedule and time to dedicate to each event that I am working on.  I was able to push through and have 3 personal bests at district meet, as well as a personal record in javelin at the OSAA state meet.  I am excited to push that mark out further through my summer meets!

My academic goal is to complete a degree in  Physical Therapy or Sports Medicine. My 2016 season goals include 160+' in javelin, sub-16 in high hurdles,  sub 26 in 200m, 17' in long jump and 4700 in heptathlon.  My goal is to qualify for the World Jrs in javelin this summer.  I am able to compete for the US or Canada as a dual citizen, and I have switched my membership to Athletics Canada as of this spring, and am working to qualify for the Canadian World Junior team in javelin this summer.  I believe my ability to keep my priorities in line, will push me through to where I need to be.

Events

  • Camp/Event
  • GVC Conference Championship
  • 5/12/16 to 5/13/16
  • I competed in 4 events, and won all 4 championship titles (javelin, high jump, 100mH, and 4x100). I was able to break the conference meet record in javelin that I had set myself last year, I set a new school record and PR in high jump, a PR in hurdles, and our 4x100 team set a new school record by almost a second! It was a great meet, a big team win, and I was awarded female athlete of the year, and top female score of the conference.
  • Camp/Event
  • National Junior Olympic Championship 2015
  • 7/27/15 to 8/02/15
  • National Champion, Javelin (44.88m). 3rd place, 15/16 heptathlon. All American in Javelin Throw and Heptathlon.
  • Camp/Event
  • 2015 USATF Region 13 Championship
  • 7/09/15 to 7/11/15
  • Repeat Regional champion in heptathlon and javelin(45.05m). National qualifier in both events.
  • Camp/Event
  • Arcadia Invite Multis
  • 4/09/15 to 4/10/15
  • I attended the Arcadia Multis as the youngest athlete in the heptathlon. I performed well, hitting PR's in three of the individual events (high jump, shot put and 800m) and a PR in total points scored (4340). I also finished 3rd in shot put and javelin events for points scored. This was a great meet to compete at with the top heptathletes in the nation there, as well as New Zealand's top two heptathletes and the top Canadian. My goal was top 10 and I finished 11th. I am excited for the next few years at this meet, as I finished very high for my age, and of the girls in the top 10 above me, only a few were juniors.
  • Camp/Event
  • Stars and Stripes Track Camp
  • 7/07/14 to 7/10/14
  • I worked with Coach Julie Bright (previous Olympic qualifier) on long jump at this camp, changing my approach length. During the mini meet at the end of camp, I had an un-official PR of 17'4" in long jump. I also was privileged to work with Cindy Greiner (3x Olympian-heptathlete), and George Walcott (3x Olympic trials qualifier for Jamaica in sprints) during this camp. It was the perfect end to the outdoor season.
  • Camp/Event
  • USATF Region 13 Junior Olympic Championships
  • 7/03/14 to 7/06/14
  • I competed in the 15/16 age group, as a young 15 year old. I won the heptathlon with a score of 4327, a score that would have also won in the 17/18 category for the Region. I also repeated as the Region 13 javelin champion in the individual events.
