My name is Katie Irelan, and I am a rising senior at Villa Joseph Marie High School in Holland, PA, a suburb of Philadelphia. Doing well in school is very important to me. I am an honor role student with a 3.96 GPA. My courses next year include AP Biology, AP Spanish, AP Psychology, Honor Calculus, and college prep courses.
I have the same level of commitment when it comes to running. Running is a gift that requires hard work and dedication. It’s given me confidence and has helped me to be a more disciplined student. I've been involved with track and cross country since grade school. In addition to running, I am also active in my community. I volunteer to pack meals with Aid for Friends, lector at my parish, and volunteer my time with Athletes Helping Athletes. This Summer I am volunteering as a CareMate at the local hospital.
I had a very successful freshman year of cross country that resulted in a 1st-place finish at the district championship and a 9th-place finish at the state championship. More importantly, I helped lead my team to a 3rd-place finish at states in 2015. In 2016, I repeated as district champion, and my team and I advanced to the state championship. This past season (2017), I placed second at the district championship, and my team and I advanced to the state championship for the third year in row. At states in 2017, I improved my time and place over 2016. The goal for 2018 is to repeat as district champions, advance to states, and improve my 5K time.
Coach, I am a team player who enjoys competing and celebrating team accomplishments. I look forward to continuing my academic and running careers in college.
Regards
Katie
