I'm Joana Oduro, and I am 17 years old. I was born and raised in Ghana, West Africa. I moved to the US when I was about 11 years old. I started 6th grade in Abilene, TX, at a private school called Abilene Christian School, which I still attend. I'm now a junior and will graduate in 2024. I have always had a love for the sport. I grew up watching the Olympics with my family. My dream since childhood was to be a successful track and field athlete. I have been running track since my 7th-grade year. I won state in the triple jump during my freshman year in TAPPS 2A. In my sophomore year, I qualified for state in the triple and long jump, but unfortunately, I sprained my ankle on my last attempt for the long jump in my regional meet, so I couldn’t perform at state. I also made it to regionals in the 200m, 4x1, and 4x2, but I was hurt before the running events started. I am goal-oriented and a hard worker. I am always the first to get to track practice and the last to leave. I am very coachable as many of my coaches have told me. I ensure I put everything I have on the track for every practice. I have done physical therapy and lots of training, and I am ready to fight and return to the state again this season. My goal is to compete at the highest level possible. I am open to all different types of schools. I work really hard in school to keep up my academic grades.
