Personal Statement

My parents are both graduates of the United States Air Force Academy and served in the USAF.  I was born abroad on a base in Okinawa, Japan and moved several times while they were on active duty.  After moving several times and supporting multiple deployments overseas, they both switched to the USAF Reserve to provide more family stability for me and my two younger brothers.  While I like the military is diverse and I got to meet people from all over the country, it was nice when we didn't have to move anymore.  We settled in Cheney, Washington where I enjoy being active in school, athletics and the community.

I think being well-rounded is very important and I always strive to be the best possible in any activity.  As much as I love competing in sports, I know academics are equally if not more important.  I work hard to maintain a high GPA while taking advanced classes.  I also like to take leadership roles so I can make positive changes that help others.  I am a member of the Cheney Youth Commission (appointed by the Mayor), which provides, promotes and coordinates activities for the young people in my hometown.

While in middle school I participated on varsity squads in Cross Country, Volleyball, Basketball and Track & Field.  I realized I enjoy running most and decided to focus on Track & Field and Cross Country in high school.  I like running because it is less dependent on physical size and more about doing well based on hard work.  I enjoy a variety of events but my favorites are the 400 Meters, High Jump and Heptathlon.  I also really enjoy Relays and Cross Country because of the teamwork and comradery.  Despite my preferences, I am more than willing to participate in whatever events my coaches think will be best for the team.

Throughout high school, I hope to show continued improvement in my events while helping our team pursue league/district titles and podium finishes in Cross Country and Track & Field.  During my upcoming club seasons, I hope to continually improve and qualify for USATF Junior Olympic Nationals in combined and open events.   By focusing on academics, athletics and community service, I hope to earn a combination of academic, athletic and other scholarships which will make attending a top-rated college or university possible.  I will then be able to pursue my love of running at the next level while also getting a solid education to set me up for my future which I hope includes becoming a teacher and coach.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
