Personal Statement
My name is Kennady A. Gentle, and I am 15 years old. I am a sophomore at Lamar County High School and a future graduate of the class of 2025. During my volleyball career, which began in 6th grade, I have started as a setter and right-side hitter. Along my volleyball journey, I have learned that I am a self-motivated person and possess the skills to be a leader on and off the court. During high school, my academics have been and will continue to be my top priority. I am actively taking college courses through Bevill State Community College in addition to my high school classes. I have maintained a 4.0 grade point average and treasure it as one of my biggest accomplishments. Outside of volleyball, I plan to pursue a doctorate degree in Physical Therapy.
I made Lamar County High School’s Varsity Volleyball team as freshman and had to overcome several challenges my first year. One of my obstacles was my height as a right-side hitter. To combat this issue, I pushed myself in the weightroom and in training to gain a higher vertical, which has led to more hits and blocks for my team.
After the high school season ended, I began playing travel ball in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, with Net-Force. It has exposed me to new personalities, leadership styles, mentors, and friends. Travel ball has increased the strength of my social, physical, and mental pillars. My confidence has grown exponentially and have developed into a very extroverted person. I am now described as one of the “loudest” voices on my team.
Overall, volleyball has brought me to the realization that I love being pushed to my limits and embracing new challenges.
