Personal Statement
My name is Haillie Sells. I am from a rural part of the Navajo Nation Reservation called Rough Rock, Arizona. I grew up here with little resources and little opportunity. Our community is under developed and struggles through certain situations. Us Navajo people are born resilient and determined, derived from our ancestral history. Our history and culture has made up the foundation of me as a person. I take much pride in our culture and traditions. Volleyball has expanded my chance at making a better future for myself. I started playing the sport when I was about 10 years old. It all stared on a make-shift net outside of my house. My mom was a successful athlete and she's the person who first introduced me into volleyball. Through the sport, I learned to be a leader, a teammate, and most importantly, a learner. It had taught me patience, determination, and the value of hard work. I consider myself a dedicated student athlete. I do my job both on the court and in the classroom. Ever since I started school, I was always a bit ahead of my other peers. I have always taken advanced or honors courses which has helped shape me into a disciplined student. I could be a great asset to your program both on and off of the court.
