Hello, my name is Jolina Castaneda. I have been playing volleyball since I was nine years old. At first, I played just to play but the longer I played I fell in love, and grew a passion for the game. Volleyball is my home away from home, and I have met some the most amazing coaches along the way who have guided me, and helped me to be where I am today. My passion for volleyball has helps me stay focused on other things off the court such as school, and my personal life. Playing volleyball has helped me physical, and mentally through all the challenges that I have had the past few years. My drive to play is unstoppable, I thrive off the pressure and the intensity that some games have. I focus on my game and playing to the best possibly that I know that I can give.
My freshman year, I was the varsity starting setter, and named co-captain on the team. I maintained a 4.0 GPA all year long, and ended the year as top of my class.
My sophomore year, I was also the varsity started setter, and earned the head captain position on the team. I ended the season with taking my team to playoffs for the first time in 15 years, and got firs team all-league. I was also able to end the year with a 4.0 GPA.
My Junior year, I was the varsity starting setter, and head captain. I ran a 5-1 rotation, while still blocking, and hitting in the front row. My team had history by being the first team in your school's history to win league undefeated, and go the semi-final before ending our season, with an ending record was 31-3. I was honored to receive CIF league MVP for this season, along with my other achievements in basketball with Academic All-Conference,and softball with First team all league for my catching. I am taking two AP classes and end my first semester with a 4.3 GPA
My determination is what will differentiate me from other recruits. I have always had a dis advantage with being younger than everyone else on the team and always playing with older girls, but I still didn't let that get to me, I worked just has hard, if not harder to show I belonged on that team and in this sport. I proved that I can set with older girls, and that I can hit and being a hitter at 5'5, and that I can play librero and pick up most everything that I attempted to touched. As you see, I am very passionate about playing volleyball at the next level, so I hope that I can continue my volleyball, and academic career at the best college that is suited for me.
