Personal Statement

Hello!  My name is Sydney Washburn, thank you for viewing my profile.  Back when I was in elementary school I loved to play tetherball on the playground.  In fact, I often played until my hands were battered and bruised.  One day, my parents and I decided that my love of tetherball might translate well into volleyball so they signed me up for USYVL at the park behind the local middle school.  I started playing volleyball at age 7 and immediately knew I never wanted to stop.  Volleyball has had a huge influence on me ever since I began learning to play.  It has taught me about leadership, competitiveness and motivation.  Over the years I have played many different positions and, as a result, I have been told by coaches that I have a very high “volleyball IQ.”

My goals for my senior year, of high school, are to strive for high academic success and be actively involved with my school.  For the future, I will be going to college and hope to play volleyball for as long as I possibly can and meet new people and explore new places.  I’ve always been told that I have a high drive and dedication for anything I do and that I always manage to keep a happy face when things aren’t going so well.

As a setter, I strive to understand the playing style of every player on my team so I can provide good sets and be a great teammate to all.  I have been named captain for many of the teams I have played for over the years which has helped me develop strong communication skills with coaches and players both on and off the court.

Again, thank you for viewing my profile and I hope to hear from you soon!
