My name is Rie Mori and I am a 5'3" Libero. I am very impressed with your athletes' focus on both their academics and athletics. I noticed that you not only have a competitive and successful record but also have your athletes graduating with high academic GPAs. As an aspiring college athlete, I am compelled by the success of your program on the court and in the classroom, and I believe I would be a great fit for your program.
The main thing I like to do is communicate with everyone on the court and stay energized while playing. I challenge myself to be the vocal leader every practice and game. One thing is for sure, I will never stop chewing on my teammates — whether we were winning or losing. The court is literally my second home.
I'm dedicated to remaining on track and working to be the most prepared I can be as a college freshman to be the best teammate, libero, defender, and person I can be to help your team win. I believe my time on the Torrance High School Tartar Volleyball Team, combined with club experience, has set me up to be successful. After being named the Junior Varsity MVP as a freshman, as a sophomore, I completed my first varsity season in high school (2018-2019) and the experience was another big step for me in my preparation. As the starting libero, I was awarded the Tartar Award for excellence on the floor, finesse as a teammate and captain, and high academics in the classroom. Unfortunately, my junior season was canceled due to COVID, but we are back in the gym and excited for my senior season. As the captain and starting libero, I was able to lead my team this year to be Pioneer League Champions and also CIF Champions this year since 1993. With this huge accomplishment, I was honored to be voted by the coaches as the best defensive player in our league and get co-Mvp on my varsity team as well.
I've continued to play on top-level club volleyball teams as well. In 2019-2020 I played up as a sophomore to BCVC 17-1, where we stayed in the Gold Division of SCVA. However, due to COVID, the season was cut short after the Red Rock Classic. I was lucky to be able to play my seventh season of club volleyball in 2020-2021, during COVID, as a member for the BCVC 17-1s, finishing 4th in the Premier Volleyball League last season. Due to my great play with my team, I also got the opportunity to travel with the 18-1 to Reno for the Sierra Nevada Qualifier, earning a Bronze medal. This season, I've jumped to 18's where I am the starting libero on the BCVC 18-1 team. We will complete in the 18's division of the Premier Volleyball League in Southern California.
I realize academics are critical and continue to remain focused on my studies. I have been on the honor roll every semester of my high school career and currently hold a 4.2 GPA. I also take pride in being voted by my peers to ASB (Associated Student Body) as the Publicity Chair. I also volunteer at the Madrona Marsh, wrap presents as Santa's helper during the holidays, and tutor whenever I don’t have volleyball practice or a game.
My goal is to play volleyball in college on a scholarship and major in Kinesiology. As a senior, college and the possibility of playing the sport I love, is around the corner. I would’ve never made it this far in my volleyball career without my family, coaches, and teammates. Continuing to play volleyball as long as I possibly can is the one way I can say thank you for all the support.
