Lyla Munson '25 Recruiting Profile

My goals for college are to make a team where I am pushed hard to perform my best and am able to show my motivation and dedication. What makes me a good candidate for your team is my player versatility. I have the ability to adapt and play wherever needed on the court to help my team. I was a level 9 gymnast training at Brandy Johnson’s Gymnastics, practicing 5 days a week, for 5 and a half hours each day. I know what it means to be fully committed, dedicated, and how to push myself to become a better person/ athlete each and every day. During my freshman year of high school, I was introduced to the sport of volleyball. After playing only 6 games at the YMCA, I made my high school’s JV team as a starting outside hitter. This team taught me what it truly means to be a team player, encouraging those around me even through the hardest matches. My first year in travel club volleyball prepared me to become the starting right-side hitter for the high school’s varsity team as a sophomore. I strive to be a positive role model and encourager for my teammates on and off the court. What makes me different from other recruits in character, academics and athletics is that I always give 100% effort. I am very coachable and love hearing feedback in order to be my best. I am able to go into tough situations during games and do what it takes to get the job done. I do not let mistakes tear me down, instead I use them to motivate me and give me something to work on in practice. Outside of academics and athletics, I enjoy working with my dad to restore my ‘84 Land Cruiser, photography and spending time outdoors.
