Personal Statement
I am Khairi Morrow. What has made me into the person I am today, is that I grew up juggling various
extracurricular activities, while still maintaining a 4.0 GPA. I began dancing at the age of four years old
and quickly grew a passion for it, so I started competitive dancing when I was seven years old. Dance is
an outlet for me to be able to let go and be free. It allows me to show my creativity, while also
expressing my thoughts and issues within the world. Alternating between two dance companies, two
volleyball teams, academics, and work is challenging. While most teenagers may struggle with time
management and prioritizing their schedules, I have been able to keep myself organized and focused by
creating four different schedules. I have benefited from participating in multiple extracurriculars
because I am able to keep myself physically active and my mind mentally engaged. I am a part of the
dual-magnet program, Math/Science and Visual Performing Arts, at my high school and commute on
public transportation an hour and a half to and from school every day. A typical day for me would be
waking up at 4 am, catching the bus and arriving to school around 7:40 am, after school I have volleyball
practice until 5:30 pm where I have to leave a little early to make it to dance, then I travel an hour and a
half to dance practice/rehearsal from 7:00-9:30 pm, once I get home I start my homework and then try
to go to bed around midnight.I put all of my energy into my extracurricular activities, hoping for one day
that all of my hard work will pay off. After college, I want to become a physical therapist and a dancer. I
would like to be the physical therapist of a dance company that I am performing for. Playing volleyball
has taught me discipline and that you can be graceful and tough at the same time. Volleyball is a total
opposite from dance, but they work together like Yin and Yang.
