- 2017 Highlights
Personal Statement
Aloha,
I am interested in a college that will allow me to get an education, play volleyball competitively and gain life experiences in an environment that is safe, rewarding and also challenging. I believe I would be a great addition to any team due to my drive, determination and fun personality. I am able to work together on a team for a common goal, hold myself and my teammates accountable as we strive to be the best that we can and also make memories while we are on that journey.
I had to learn first-hand that we need to work hard, have a strong determination to reach our goals and enjoy life as I was faced a challenging event two years ago, which has made me stronger than I may have been, if I didn't go through it. In 2014 I was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes (Type I). In an instant everything changed. Yes, many people live long, successful lives with this condition but it is unlike anything I had experienced. On a regular basis I have to realize I am not like others, I am different and unique and unfortunately, I need to work harder than many people because of this. As I recovered I realized I needed to see things differently, fight for what I want or need and just remember life is what you make it.
I continued to push myself to play better, study hard and enjoy my youth. I have played for a competitive volleyball club for the past 4 years, made my varsity volleyball team this past year, continue to maintain a 3.5 GPA at a school with high academic requirements while also enjoying surfing and hiking on our beautiful island. I also volunteer on a regular basis at different organizations on my island and give back to my community.
Thank you for taking the time to get to know me a little more! I look forward to hearing from you
