Growing up being a multi-sport athlete, I have learned so much about myself and how to overcome many challenges. Through basketball, I have learned how to overcome the sports anxiety that I struggled with growing up. Through volleyball, I have learned how to communicate with players and lift up my team. Through other sports, including swimming and cross country, I have learned how to push myself through difficult, strenuous situations. I have enjoyed many sports, but I am now focused on volleyball because I love the fast-forming bonds with the players created through teamwork.
I have been playing volleyball since 12U. After my first couple games in high school, I realized that this is the sport I want to continue playing throughout my upcoming years of college. I have learned so much through school and club volleyball, including ways to improve my skills, my attitude, and my teamwork. As a setter, I feel I have a very important job on the court. One thing I love about being a setter is the amount of control I feel I have on the court. From knowing where everyone is at all times, to getting a touch on the ball almost every play, I feel that my job on the court is very valuable and challenging. As a challenging position, I constantly try my best to improve my hands, footwork, and speed. Outside of practice, I do weekly private lessons and speed and agility training to get better not only for myself, but for my team. I feel that my athleticism gained from playing other sports has helped me become a quick-thinking, agile, and versatile player.
I believe going to a Catholic school has helped me improve my attitude and maturity over the years. It has helped me strive to be the best student and person I can be. Inside the classroom, I consider myself a hard worker and a good student. I always strive to keep consistent good grades to stay on the honor roll. At my high school, I was awarded the highest academic scholarship reflecting my communication skills and my hard work in and outside of the classroom. Through my school journey, I have decided to study criminal psychology in college. I look forward to the opportunity to use what I have learned about balancing multiple sports and schoolwork and apply that to strive for academic excellence and success in college volleyball.
Sports and school have provided numerous challenges in my life. If you take away one thing from me, please know that I am not afraid of a challenge and will push myself and team to overcome anything.
