I started in sports at a young age. Swimming and soccer in the toddler years, taekwondo in the school age years, and volleyball in high school. I achieved my taekwondo second degree black belt at the age of 14, as well as, competed in major national and international competitions. I’ve been awarded taekwondo medals from the US National Championships, US Open, and Pan American Championships. Competing in youth sports has taught me to be patient, having self control, and good sportsmanship. Most especially, I learned that the only way to stay on top of your game is to work hard and practice.
My college goal is to achieve a degree that will lead me towards a career in a healthcare or science profession. Therefore, I’m looking for a school that can help get me closer to my career goal, as well as, continue to participate in the athletic program.
The greatest decision I had to face was leaving a sport that I have competed in for 8 years. In addition, learning a new sport was and at present, a fun and rewarding challenge. I knew it wasn’t going to be easy, but I am determined to succeed to achieve my goal of becoming one of the best libero/defense specialist on my current and future teams.
My father was a setter when he played volleyball. He taught me about the sport through practice and watching NCAA women’s volleyball matches. My parents enrolled me in a volleyball summer camp in 7th grade that sparked my interest in this sport. It wasn’t until the summer prior to 9th grade when I started my volleyball journey. To this day, I realized that I loved this sport after my experience with my high school volleyball teams, including the volleyball club I’ve been currently attending.
The skills and characteristics I possess are teamwork, showing motivation, communication, always ready to learn a new skill, and being respectful to my teammates and coaches either on or off the court.
