"The future belongs to those who prepare for it today" ~Malcolm X
My name is Desha Jenkins. I'm currently a junior in high school. I want to be able to find a college that doesn't just fit my major, but my athletic ability as well. As of right now, I have chose to major in Psychology and hopefully minor in Visual Performing Arts. When it comes to the athletic approach, I want to find a school that can not only be a great fit but also strengthens my skills for volleyball. I'll be a great candidate for your team because I'm a very determined and when any challenge comes my way, I know that I must be able to react in a timely manner no matter how hard it may be. My character makes me different from other recruits because I'm a very determined leader and I'm able to take ownership of the mistakes I make. My athletics are different from other recruits because I'm able to adjust to any position a coach may ask me to play. My academics differ from other recruits because I'm currently enrolled in a pre-college program, which means when I graduate I'll have both my high school diploma and associate's degree.
Volleyball came into my life around 6th grade. During this time, I was in Germany which is where my older sister played in high school. Ever since she made that team, I would always want to go to her practices, learn about the sport, and just have fun. Then on out, I knew I needed to play volleyball. A couple of my friends and I had sparked this interest by letting our science teacher know that we want to have a school volleyball team. By the next week, we had one. We played against different teams across our region where I encountered my strengths and weaknesses. As I got into the sport just enough, I had to move to Maryland. It was a bitter sweet moment because I considered Germany home where I experienced nearly everything from discovering who I am to what I want to do when I graduate, which was play volleyball. Coming back to the states, I didn’t know whether or not I’ll still be able to play. I didn’t know if volleyball was played across the world. Although I didn’t play my 7th and 8th grade year due to my lack of knowledge of club, my 9th grade year was the best because I started playing the sport that shapes who I am today.
