Personal Statement

Borrowing from the great Langston Hughes, my journey has "...been no crystal stair" AND it is that journey that makes me an invaluable individual, student, and volleyball player. My lived experience has helped me to truly understand the hard work, determination, and intrinsic motivation it takes to take full advantage of opportunities to achieve one’s goals.  One of my top goals is to use my passion and talent for the game of volleyball to earn a scholarship and fully contribute, as a student-athlete, to a well-suited volleyball program.

My experience in school and club volleyball, in addition to strength and positional training four (4) times a week in the off-season, continues to help me develop my individual player talents of:

  1. high aggressiveness at the net;
  2. keen capacity to anticipate and execute a block; and
  3. sharp ability to hit the ball in open areas that are difficult for the opponent to counter.

Please check out the evaluation of my skills at the 2022 Exact Sports Volleyball Showcase (copy/paste web address in a new browser): https://mycamp.exactsports.com/pr_share/83661/9816f545-9d3c-448c-ba9f-661b25a02359

My life experience has helped me develop a high-level of emotional intelligence that makes me an encouraging teammate, a leader off the court, and a coachable player.

As a player in your program, I will work tirelessly to maximize my time and talent as a student-athlete to contribute to a winning environment and use the opportunity to achieve my lifelong goal of becoming a sports psychologist.

Please check out my recruiting profile and reach out to me discuss how we can work together to achieve our goals.  When you think of M’Jai Watkins, remember my motto, “family, school, volleyball.”

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
