Caitlin Chambers '17 Recruiting Profile

Hello, my name is Caitlin Chambers. I am a junior at the Mary Institute St. Louis Country Day School. I have been around the game of volleyball my entire life. One of my first volleyball memories is when my mother showed me her MAC championship and NCAA appearance banners hanging in the Miami University arena. Since that day I have wanted banners just like hers. I have learned that with hard work and determination that dream can be a reality.
I started playing volleyball in third grade and joined my first club team at age ten. The type of player that I am today was shaped by my first club experience. During the first few months of club I was receiving very little playing time and I wanted to be a setter. I determined that if I wanted more playing time I must practice more. That evening I went home and told my parents that I needed more practice. My mom set up private lessons and I marked-out the setter footwork on our patio and practiced every day.  By the end of club season, I was the starting setter and that cemented in my mind that with hard work, determination, and practice you can achieve anything.
Since that time, my work ethic has set me apart and I have improved my game in all aspects. I am a six rotation player who is extremely versatile as I have played all positions except libero. I am known by my teammates and coaches for my competitive spirit, work ethic, leadership, teamwork, and can-do attitude. Due to my birthdate I have always been one of the younger players on my club team. This has made me a stronger player because I have to work harder than everyone else. As people grew at different times, I had to learn to be a smart player. I worked on shot selections and hitting the deep corners. Although these shots do not get as many oohs and aahs, a kill is a kill. Recently at my high school’s volleyball banquet, my coaches commented that I have the highest volleyball IQ of anyone they have ever coached.  This meant a lot to me because I have worked hard learning all aspects of the game.
I attend an academically rigorous college prep school while being a dedicated volleyball player. This has taught me time management and prepared me to be a collegiate athlete. I know that I am ready to take both my game and school work to the next level.
