Hi! I am Abbie Skaggs, a 2022 Libero/DS from Willard, Missouri. I used to go to school and play volleyball at Ozark High School but recently moved due to family reasons. I started playing volleyball in 7th grade; I didn’t know a thing about it and just wanted to try something new. I was behind all the other girls by starting club in 2018 as an 8th grader. Soon I was playing varsity as a sophomore at a Class 5 school.
Ever since then I have wanted to play at the collegiate level and help a team compete. My favorite features about myself as an athlete are my celebrations ( I get some crazy looks from how hype I get) and how coachable I am. I want to play with girls and be on a team that is a family and has great camaraderie. I am always asking questions on how to improve my volleyball IQ and techniques. Volleyball is a very mental game and I am very good at shaking my mistakes off and not letting it effect me or my teammates; I have a “next ball” mentality.
My grades and how I treat people outside of volleyball is very essential to me as well. I think being a good person helps you be a better athlete. Some of my college goals would be to study kinesiology and be a professional athletic trainer to work with other athletes of all kinds.
I may not be 6 feet tall with an insane vertical but my compassion, energy and communication creates a bigger presence than any 6 foot girl. I know defensive specialist are a dime a dozen but my heart and worth ethic is like no other. Plus, I’m a 2020 Class 4 State Champion;)
