My name is Samantha Matthews but everyone calls me Sam. I am currently a Junior and 17 years old. I am a three sport athlete (volleyball, basketball, and track) on top of being on a club team. I am very busy during each sport because I strongly believe that if I join a team I will give that team my 110%. This year I competed at the state Volleyball tournament (semi-final game), state Basketball tournament, competed in Discus and Shotput at the state Track Meet where I placed 5th and 6th in these events. I am first and last to leave the gym. However, volleyball is my passion and I am always trying to improve my skills. I have tried out for the USA volleyball team and made the A3 camp two years. In 2011 my club went to the Lone Star tournament playing in the American division and received twenty-first place. In 2012 we competed at the Midwest Qualifier in Indianapolis and placed 9th. We just competed in the Big South Tournament and finished 9th and we finished 5th in the Show Me tournament in Kansas City. We have a bid to National's in Dallas. I will be also playing in the AAU National tournament in Orlando in June. I live in a small town of twelve thousand people and because we are such a small town, volleyball is not introduced until the seventh grade. It is a dream of mine to play volleyball in college and I will travel anywhere to pursue my dream. After college I hope to be a volleyball coach at a university or a club. I am an honors student and academics is also very important to me. I am the President of Student Council, and President of National Honor Society, an active member of FFA., and a math tutor. I like to stay busy and involved.
