Kristen Wagner '14 Recruiting Profile

My name is Kristen Wagner and I graduate from Portales High School in May 2014. I am 5'11" and I weigh 147 pounds. My primary position is outside hitter, but I also play left/middle back defense. Throughout my high school and club volleyball career(last four years), I have played every position on the court. I am the type of player who is relentless and I do not back down from any challenge. I do not take a single set lightly, I strive to lead the team through my physical capabilities and encouraging, strong-willed example. For example, when my team is in a tense/panic moment in a set, I demand and want the ball because I have the confidence in my ability to win the point, however I may choose to execute it. I have been told and known for being extremely competitive; My work ethic has always been like this. I have always been the athlete that pushes the limits; I do not feel satisfied or content with second place or just an easy work out, I push myself beyond comfort so that I am able to be strong, physically and emotionally, on and off the volleyball court. I lead all of my teams through encouraging words and actions; I do not believe in self-pity or bad attitudes because no team will be successful with that behavior. I am a positive player that listens and corrects my actions so that I reach the player I hope to be and the player my team and coach wants me to be. I am ready to play at an advanced level of volleyball because I am willing and competitive enough to step up my game.

Along with volleyball, I strive for greatness in the classroom. I have been in the top two of my class of 173 for my entire high school career. I plan to earn a Bachelor in Science of Nursing, followed by a Master's in Science of Nursing where ever I may go to college at. After earning my Master's degree, I hope to apply for a DNP program that would certify me as a Nurse Practitioner. I will work diligently in the classroom because I want to be a successful, independent woman when I am older and on my own.
