Personal Statement
Hi my name is Lindsey Zawisa. I am a student athlete at Galway Junior Senior High School. I am graduating in the year 2019 from Galway High. Galway is a class D school and has about 60-90 kids in each grade. I believe that growing up playing with a team coming from a small school has advanced my meaning of a team and being a family. I played one year on modified my 7th grade year and then moved up to play on JV my 8th grade year. Now I am a two-year varsity starter. I have been playing volleyball since I was very small but did not start playing with a team until I was 11. My family including my mom, aunt, and 3 sisters have played volleyball. I have learned volleyball and many other things including behavioral lessons from not only my coaches but my family and also my peers.
In my high school career so far I have achieved so much not just as an individual but I have achieved what I thought would never happen with my team. This past school volleyball season my team fought our way to states and lost in the semi finals. Our team made history in our school to be the first ever women's team to go to States. This opportunity was all made possible due to my amazing Coach and team pushing everyone to be their best. In our amazing journey this past season I have received so many great honors. Including 1st team all league, league MVP hitter, league overall MVP runner up, 1st team All State for New York, New York state all tournament final four, and Times Union section 2 second team all star. Through my volleyball career I have learned so much not just about volleyball but myself. I’ve learned that my dedication and drive to never stop or quit is what has pushed me to the level that I am. Also being Captain on my team this past year made my leadership level on and off the court increase drastically. Volleyball is not my only focus in high school, academics is very important to me. I would like to graduate high school with an advanced Regents diploma and as many college credits as I can grasp. In college I am not positive on what I would like to pursue but I have an interest in Neonatal nursing. Overcoming obstacles to me seems impossible unless you have a support system that helps you through them. In my life I’m lucky I have that wherever I look. I’ve overcome switching clubs that my family had been a part of forever to a new club and starting new. Which I have come to realize has only made me better. I’ve been playing club since I was 11 when I started playing for Caroga Lake Volleyball Club. Now I play for a club run out of Albany, New York called Northeast Thunder Volleyball Club. I’ve been playing with this club for two years now and have made unforgettable friendships and progress in my volleyball career.
In conclusion, I have an extreme interest in playing volleyball at the collegiate level. If you would like to contact me for more information please reach me through my email [email protected] .
