I began playing travel soccer at the age of age of 4. In 6th grade, and following in my older sister's footsteps, I began playing travel volleyball. I loved playing both sports, as both challenged me in different ways and in different settings, but in 9th grade I had to choose. There was no doubt in my mind that volleyball was my passion and where I wanted to focus my high school athletic career on.
I have always been a member of the Gold/Elite or top club team at Sportime VBC since 12’s and have been accustomed to playing in every game. In 9th grade I made Varsity and it was an enlightening experience, as there was a senior setter who started above me. I quickly learned that being on the sideline in a supportive and positive manner is just as important as playing on the court and that everyone on a team is equally important, with all having a role to play in a team’s success. My first year on Varsity I grew so much as a person and teammate. I learned so much about sportsmanship and leadership from the players on the court, as well as those on the sideline with me. This past year and last I was the starting setter and played in every game, but always kept in mind the lessons I learned on the sideline my first year.
My volleyball career has given me the opportunity to build lasting relationships with teammates, coaches and mentors that have enriched my life. Playing and competing as a setter has taught me self-discipline, confidence under pressure, pride, and leadership skills that I carry with me every day. My desire to grow as an athlete and student will propel me toward reaching my goal of enrolling in a college that will help prepare me for life, while playing the sport I love at a higher level.
