I fell in like with volleyball in the sixth grade and I will never forget that day. I was peppering with a seventh grader who kept asking if I ever played before and I kept telling her no, she was surprised and I have been obsessed with the sport ever since. I fell in love with volleyball the following year when I learned how to serve overhand.
Volleyball has been a part of my daily life for the past five years and has helped me grow as a person in many ways. It has helped me come out of my shell and enabled me to approach people in a comfortable manner, helping them come out of their shells creating many friendships and bonds and in volleyball and team chemistry. I’m a very optimistic person and player, and while I may get in my head after a series of bad plays, I am always able to bounce back and make the best of the situation or look at the best possible outcome. I’m an outspoken person and volleyball is a great conversation starter.
My mom is my biggest supporter, she is at every game even when they are far away and I tell her she doesn’t have to come. We might have our disagreements but I'll always appreciate all the sacrifices in her life she made for me from the many miles she has put on her van to the amount of time she is away from my two little brothers. She's helped me become a better person and more self-aware of how I can make an impact not only on myself but on others.
My goal in high school is to become as well-rounded as possible. While I am a three-sport athlete, I do not want to be seen as only an athlete. I am an academic athlete, an honors student making A’s in all my classes, and keeping a GPA above 4.0 while being active in Beta Club and National Honors Society. I pursue my interest in art and music playing the flute in the marching band. Moving forward, I want to play volleyball at an out-of-state D1 college, being the first one off the bench and then eventually a starter. I plan to major in sports medicine and pass all my classes with straight A’s.
My biggest obstacle has been balancing school and athletics. Playing three sports and travel volleyball takes its toll on my body and there are days that I am physically and mentally exhausted, but I have learned to take care of myself and push forward because hard work pays off. I have high expectations of myself, and my mom instilled in me that failure without hard work is not an option; it is ok to be mediocre if I don’t understand something, but mediocre due to being lazy is unacceptable.
