Hi, my name is Elisabeth Smith and I attend Athens Drive high school in Raleigh, North Carolina. I have been playing volleyball for over 4 years now on multiple teams including high school and travel. I diligently fight every day to learn more about the sport. I am willing to do whatever it takes to find the perfect school for me and to hopefully play at the collegiate level.
In November of 2013, something happened that will forever change my outlook on volleyball and life. I suffered an injury to my left knee. I tore my ACL and meniscus at a volleyball workout, the day before tryouts. The pain was nothing compared to the fear of never playing volleyball again. Once reality set in and my surgery date was set, I realized what I had to do in order to get back on the court. After a year of very little volleyball and a whole lot of therapy, I am finally back on the court and more determined than ever. I realized how easily an injury can occur and how quickly things can change. I was always motivated before my injury, but now I will never take the ability to play volleyball for granted. I have made a promise to myself to always work my hardest because I am truly blessed to have the opportunity to return to the court.
On the court I am competitive, talkative, and an overall hard working player. I am primarily a middle hitter but am willing to help the team out wherever I am needed. I am extremely coach able and will always take others advice in efforts to make myself a better player and teammate.
Not only do I work hard on the court, but also off the court. I maintain a high GPA, even though I am taking mostly honors and AP classes. I strive daily to learn as much as possible. I am planning on taking the SAT and ACT in the spring and am already preparing for both.
Although I don't know where I'm headed, I know God directs each step I make. Regardless of where I end, I will be dedicated both on and off the court to be the best I can be.
