Personal Statement
Volleyball may just be a sport to some, but to me it is a journey towards building a bond with others in order to achieve success in so many aspects of life. As a starting libero for a Varsity Volleyball team since my freshman year, this opportunity has contributed to countless achievements on and off of the court. The sport of volleyball allows me to maintain a strong balance between physical and educational rigor. My dedication, tenacity and zeal for success will carry with me on every court. Volleyball has helped me strengthen many characteristics such as working with others, unselfishness and the most important attribute which is being a good role model and leader; both on and off the court.
Throughout my volleyball career as libero, my varsity team has won several awards including repeated conference championships. Winning significant awards just doesn’t only bring pride and joy, they also allow one to have a sense of humility. There have been many instances when we have been defeated but I have learned that there is a sense of victory from those tough losses. Those moments have taught me to hold my head up higher, work harder and show others that champions aren’t just defined by an award, but defined by how they carry themselves. As a successful student athlete, I have proudly maintained a solid grade point average taking all honors courses, participating in many extracurricular activities and service projects for the community. Winning isn’t just about a victory on the court, it’s about taking that energy and applying it to other areas to ensure that we all do our part to make our communities a better place. Being a volleyball player has given me the mental tools and the physical strength to always strive for success.
