Personal Statement
Soccer was the first team sport I played, then basketball and finally I found volleyball. I fell in love with volleyball. I never really felt like I "fit in" until I started playing team sports. I have played on good teams and bad teams but every team has felt like a place I belong because of the friends I make and the lessons and skills I learn. If I could play every sport, I would certainly try, but volleyball is my passion.
I play both indoor and beach. I may not be super tall, but I am fast, have a good vertical, and I read the ball and the court well. I played all the way around each of the last 5 club seasons and have played every position on the court. Currently, I am setting and playing as an outside/opposite hitter. for high school and setting for club. My coaches call me an all-around utility player. I am very coach-able and appreciate that each coach I have had, regardless of the sport, has taught me new skills as both an athlete and a person.
As a junior, I have played varsity and earned All-League honors all 3 years. This year, despite not advancing past the second round of the state tournament, I was honored to receive All-State recognition. I enjoy the competition and added responsibilities of setting a 5-1. This year I challenged myself by changing clubs. I am now on Portland Volleyball Club's 18-1 National team and playing as a setter. The level of competition and play is superior to my previous club and the coaching is great! I feel this change will help me grow as a player and an athlete.
Through USA Volleyball's High Performance A1 training program, I play as a libero. I have had a chance to play with some of the top girls in the nation for my age group both indoor and beach. It is great to play with girls who are so athletic and challenge me to be a better player.
I am a very hard worker... in the gym, at school and at home. My family is incredibly supportive of me and making them proud of the person I am is extremely important to me. Having the opportunity to play at the college level would be an honor. I feel that setting goals and aspiring to better myself in pursuit of those goals makes my time in the gym and the classroom even more valuable. I plan to work hard towards that goal. I plan to keep my GPA high and push myself both academically and athletically. I am open to all options at this point and am excited about connecting with schools and coaches that could be a good match for me.
