Personal Statement

Im a junior in high school, I havent actually been playing volleyball that long, 1.5 seasons of club and 3 years of bad highschool. However despite that I was determined to get better because I love volleyball. I went to every good camp and clinic I was able to go to and practiced for hours at my gym so I could get better. I really love volleyball and if I had the chance to play more and get even better it would mean everything to me.  I started later than other girls, but I have improved and am still improving quickly. I have been on several losing teams. When I say losing I mean the one team I was on only won 3 games in a club season, and we went to 4-6 tournaments (though not big ones). However I believe because of that it has made me a stronger person. I am more capable with dealing with failure, and I have achieved a mindset that never gives up even when the teamis down. I am capable of making bad plays and mistakes, learning from those plays and then moving on and going and hitting just as hard or diving for the ball despite just having shanked it because I want to redeam myself to the team and myself by getting back the point I lost and trying again. My current leauge coach told my team he puts me on the court because I don't think. He said that wasn't a bad thing and was in fact a good thing. He said that it isn't that I'm not smart about plays or don't actually think, its that he knows I can make a mistake and be upset about it, then move on and keep going. During one game we were losing and people were starting to hesitate and not hit hard or go for the ball as much, and my coach had that game been saving me for that situation because he knew this game would be tough. So he put me on court and I hit as hard as I could continuously, and sometimes they got it (a lot of times they didn't which I was pleased about), but no matter what happened I learned from it, moved on and kept going and that, what he said later, is why he put me there. I believe in having good players and celebrating good kills and compition, but I also know that volleyball is a team sport, there is no one on a court who can win only a team. I believe that no matter how good a team or a perticular player unless that player improves the team as a whole they will never be the best they can be. I once heard the best player is one who improves all others the moment they step on the court and encourages them when they are off it, and I have espired ever since to be that player. If I can't play volleyball, I want to be an aerospace engineer. Ever since I stepped onto my first plane I loved them, and before that I loved the sky's and was fascinated by the stars and what flew among them, I wanted to be among them, in fact I wanted to be the one who built the things that flew among them. Beyond that, I'm a shy person until you get to know me and one a person does I am one of the loudest, most likely to smile and laugh people that you will meet. I fight for what I believe in but can be rational. I like logic and rational answers more than I do emotionally charged answers and questions. I can't promise years upon years of experience, but I can promise growth and learning.
