My name is Kendall Voelkel and I’m going into my senior year at Vandegrift High School in Austin Texas. I’ve been playing club volleyball since the age of 12. Before that my love for the sport started when my dad coached me on weekends for the YMCA. During my volleyball career I’ve learned many valuable skills that serve me both on and off the court. Having dyslexia and ADD can be challenging and erode a person's confidence. Volleyball helped me overcome my self-doubt and made me confident in myself. It has also taught me the importance of trust. Trust on the court in your teammates is paramount to success. Trusting that everyone will do their job and if they’re unable you can be there for them. I think that makes a successful team. Persistence is another trait. Even though the game or match might not have gone the way you wanted, you move one and not dwell on it. You learn from your mistakes and come out stronger for the next game. I like that volleyball has also taught me to make quick and strategic decisions. This is another trait that will serve me well in college and throughout life.
Throughout my years playing volleyball I’ve played for a number of clubs. I’m glad I did because each year I was able to meet a different group of girls which broadened my experience. I was able to meet more people from different parts of Austin, different schools and different backgrounds. I appreciate this because it’s preparing me for life outside of my neighborhood “bubble”.
I can’t say enough about my time playing club ball. All of my experiences have been positive and my goal is to continue to play during college. I love Austin Texas but I’m excited at the idea of exploring opportunities outside of Texas.
Thank you for taking the time to find out a little bit about me!
