My long-term academic goal is to go to Med school and become a Radiologist. It’s very important for me to have a high GPA and take advanced classes, so I can get into Med School. I’m currently on an academic plan where I will graduate high school with 44 college credits and with honors. I also belong to other school organizations such as Key Club and HOSA where I do a lot of community volunteer work. Outside of school I also do volunteer work with my Mom through her job.
I became interested in volleyball when I was in 6th grade when my mom took me to a game. That same year I started playing club volleyball and the following year at school. Volleyball has become a part of my life. As soon as the season ends, I’m ready for the next season to start. During the summer I do volleyball camps and clinics at some of the local colleges and at club. I have played the position as an OH every year in club and in school, except my Freshman year in school I was the setter. I have been the starter on every team that I have been on, in school and in club. One skill that I can bring to the team is playing multiple positions. In club, I have had the opportunity to play all-around every year. This last season not only was I the all-around player I was never substituted out for any set/game. Playing all-around not only helped with playing different positions it has helped with my strength and endurance.
One thing I have learned about myself while playing volleyball is to have patience. Academics might come easy to me and I get it the first time but with volleyball learning a new skill takes a lot of practice and does not happen overnight. My high school team looses more than we win, and I’ve had to learn it’s not always about winning. It’s about growing as in individual and as a team, mentally and physically. Not to give up, stay positive and to give it your all so when you walk off that court you feel good about yourself for giving 100% at all times. With being one of the few players on my high school team that play club a lot of my teammates ask me for advice on how to do some things. This has taught me how to be a leader and to feel more confident in myself. Overall volleyball has thought me responsibility, dedication, teamwork and leadership skills that I will be able to use throughout my life.
