Personal Statement
From the first time I stepped foot on a volleyball court in the seventh grade until now, I knew that I would forever love this sport. My family has given me an endless support system throughout my entire volleyball career. My parents have been my biggest influences throughout my volleyball career. I have learned so many lessons about perseverance, dedication, and believing in myself. I fell in love with volleyball in the seventh grade. Every minute we were in practice I loved being there. Even if I wasn't playing, I loved just being around the sport. One thing I learned from playing this sport for so long is that it's not always about how much skill you have. Sometimes it's about heart.
My passion for the sport shows in my during and in between plays. Strangers have stopped me at volleyball tournaments and told me that they enjoyed watching me play because I'm always encouraging everyone around me. I want to see everyone succeed and the team do well as a whole. I want everyone to focus on the next ball, not the score. I’ll do anything and everything to help my team. I’m the one who runs across the gym to shag the ball that flew long. I’m the one that helps put up the net. My high school coach recognized my heart and dedication so she broke tradition and named me captain as a Junior.
Although I’m in the top 10% of my class, I have not discovered my future career and passion, so I will be a general studies major to start. Volleyball is the one thing I know I want to do.
I am a very versatile player and can play pretty much anywhere you put me. I have extensive experience at Outside Hitter and Defensive Specialist, but I have also played Right-side and Middle. I have also been successful in track, being on Varsity as a freshman and named Jumper of the Year as a sophomore. I am a cheerleader as well, and I am hoping to earn Captain for next year. What this means to you is that I am versatile and coachable. I know I have the skills, leadership ability, and heart to play for a college team. I love being around the game and I would love to contribute to any program.
