marilin cervantes-valdez '15 Recruiting Profile

Hello! I am Marilin Cervantes-Valdez. I am going to be a senior, and I can play any position. I am very coachable and I am willing to adapt to any given situation. I have a positive attitude towards anyone and can fit with any crowd. Since day one I fell in love with the game and never looked back to give up on it. I like to play against people who have seem to have a higher level of play than I do, so I can learn from them, and push myself to a higher level of play. My passion for volleyball drives me forward everyday, and has helped me become the student athlete I am today.

At first glance, I may not look like a threat in volleyball.  Those who have had to work hard for what they have are more likely to dig in and fight until the end.  I started late in the game, from middle school  C team, I didn't play my 8th grade year,but played club and made starting varsity my freshman year. Being the only one from my freshman team to make varsity, I am the one who has excelled and grown at each level. I have pushed myself to performing every task given to me to perfection.

I have had to look past the limits that others place on me.  With my faith and never give up attitude, I know there will be opportunities for me to grow as an individual.  When I excel, I can help others do the same. When others tell me I can't achieve something, I dedicate myself to prove others wrong. I stand up to what I believe in even if it means I am standing alone. I have always used my gifts and talents to help others, and motivate them to chase their dreams and not give up.
