I’m Tabitha Wechlo, and I am sixteen year old middle hitter from Colgate, Wisconsin. I started playing volleyball in eighth grade at the age of twelve. The club I began with was G-Force Volleyball, I had no background experience with volleyball prior to eighth grade except for a few rec department camps. G-Force VBC taught me good fundamentals and a solid volleyball IQ. When in the transition of freshman to sophomore year, I decided to push myself further, I tried out all over Southeast Wisconsin and chose to play with Adversity VBC. This club has helped me gain confidence, friends, great coaching and leadership skills. I was chosen in my first year at the club, to be captain of my team by my coach, John Bronikowski. Throughout the past seasons I feel I have grown as a player and as a person. My fellow captain and I have opened up training sessions on Mondays to work on anything players want or need help with. This 2017 season I was offered a spot on the Wisconsin Premiere 18-Teal (National) team. My team will be competing in the Great Lakes power league.
Prior to playing volleyball I played softball for eight years of my life. I had a love and passion for the sport. When I was twelve, my softball team had gone all over Southeast Wisconsin every weekend of every summer to play; I loved the sport and all my teammates, and we became like family. My coach had limited my playing time but that helped me learn a lot as a player. I learned commitment, how to stay positive in hard times, and how to be persistent in my goals. Softball was one of the biggest sports struggles I have ever been through, but the struggles I've faced have lead me to volleyball, where I feel I belong. As I started volleyball I learned how to become a leader especially along with many other traits I have learned.
Not only do I try to be a leader on the volleyball court but I also strive to be a leader in my community. My faith is something I hold very close to me and it is important. Every Sunday I volunteer to teach kids from the ages of 2-12 songs to perform in church. I also volunteer to mentor kids during the Lenten season. Not only to I volunteer at church twice a week but I also go to Crossways camping Ministries- Waypost Camp every summer, where we volunteer, at camp we do three service projects in one week.
While playing volleyball, volunteering and going to church I have learned to be a leader, a self advocate, and a positive role model. My sports have taught me how to be a better person. Through my volunteering I learned to always be positive, and thankful for what I have, and through all of my activities I have learned to become a leader. I hope to carry all of these traits into college volleyball, and into your school. Thank you for taking time to get to know me and I hope to meet you at GLPL or anytime that is convenient for you!
