My name is Claire Contreras and I’m a part of the 2024 class at Mira Loma High School in Sacramento, CA. My life is centered around being an athlete and a leader within my community. I started playing water polo when I was 8 years old after doing club swimming for years and I knew instantly that water polo was the sport for me. Though Mira Loma is not known for its water polo, I've played on varsity all four years and helped to rebuild the program as two time captain. I play for American River Water Polo on the 16u A team and have been a starter all my years since 10u. I train every practice like it is a game and work to instill drive and passion into my teammates, many of which have never played the sport. I truly love playing water polo and I believe that being an athlete has shaped me into a better leader on and off the pool deck. Outside of water polo, I'm student body president at MLHS and helped my school open the first Best Buddies chapter in our district. I hope to play at a Division 1 college and major in Sports Medicine and Kinesiology.
