My name is Lizzy Veguilla. This is my third year wrestling. My first year wrestling, I got a trophy for rookie of the year and a medal and trophy for placing 3rd at a girls state tournament. Not only do I love wrestling but the relationship with my teammates is awesome. We help each other out not only during practice but during matches too. I have always been able to do better than before with wrestling and strength throughout the year. I make goals within the season to push myself and encourage myself. I keep my grades up and am able to have a balanced schedule with school and sports.
Unfortunately, on January 8, 2022; my elbow dislocated at a state qualifiers. I was extremely disappointed with never being injured like this before. I was then told I wouldn't be able to finish my season or be able to engage in any upper body physical activity. A few days after coming home from the hospital, I was back at the gym doing lower body. A month later I got my brace off and had a pretty speedy recovery. I am now almost 6 months after my injury and realized that an injury could not stop me from getting stronger and I realized that it just gave me more of a reason to work harder for my goals and push myself to get better at wrestling.
