Personal Statement
As one journey ends another begins. I am proud of my hard work with ending my high school career of a 4x State Qualifier, 3x placer but I can’t say that I am done, or satisfied. I want the next challenge, I want to be a NCAA Champion, I want to compete in Freestyle and Greco and I understand now that hard work opens more doors for me.
Hard work has been something that I have been accustomed to, with wrestling I started when I was four years old, and have progressed to wrestling with national level teams. As a high school Freshman I placed 6th in Colorado State, however, as a sophomore qualifier I fell short with one of the matches keeping me from being on the podium. As a Junior I placed 3rd in State, but would have welcomed the wrestle backs if they were allowed. Senior year, losing to completion strengthens your core, but is hard to swallow. I placed 3rd and wrestled back, however losing 2-1 to completion that I beat was hard. With wrestling you have to have the heart to fight back when things don't go your way.
My wrestling is aggressive on the mat, but I am very respectful to all I come in contact with and enjoy being on the mat and will work hard when given the opportunity. Life throws you challenges as I am hearing impaired, however this has not stopped me from achieving my goals. I have valued all the coaches that I have come into contact with throughout my wrestling and wil value the insight of my new coaches.
In terms of academics I am wanting to study business or law enforcement and apply the work ethics learned from the mat to the workforce to be able to continue to give back to the sport and to the alumni that is helping me achieve the education. I enjoy school and do have to work harder then others with different ways of learning, but I want to accept and embrace those challenges moving forward on the mat, in the classroom and back to my community.
