Personal Statement
Greetings Coach, I would like to introduce myself to you. My name is William Joseph Engel IV, but just call me Will.
I started my wrestling career as a 1st grader. I am not ashamed to tell you that I struggled with ADHA. My parents tried to involve me in activities to help me focus my energy. So, they signed me up for the youth wresting program in Albany Missouri. As the years went on I knew this was something I really wanted to deticate my time. It gave me a sense of something I was in control of, a feeling of bonding with my team and pride in myself. As my years in elementary came to a close and Jr. High was approaching, I was afraid that I might not be able to wrestle anymore, you see, our school does not offer wrestling as a sport. So, I took it upon myself to write a letter to the school board, explaining how much wrestling meant to me and to please enter into a cooperative agreement with the neighboring school. This wasn't just for me...I have tried to get others involved in the sport of wrestling too. Giving others another opportunity to try something different, for themselves. Well, I was successful. I now am able to wrestle for Albany R3.
In high school, I am learning that I want to make a difference, not just on the mat but in the classroom, at home, at church, in the community. I am driven. I am an honor roll student, involved in a variety of school activities, and at home, help my dad manage our family farm. In college i want pursue a degree in Education, as well as a wrestling career. I hope to continue learning and making myself and others proud. I then hope to give back someday, not only teaching kids the skills they need on the mat, but in life.
Thanks Coach, I really appreciate your time in viewing my profile.
Sincerely, Will Engel
