Personal Statement
After a successful year as the league and sectional champion with a record of 42-5 (and reaching the school win record), the district tournament drove home the painful lesson that in wrestling, you are only as good as your last match. The humbling experience of not making it to the state tournament motivates me to continuously seek out high level competition to challenge myself to improve. This summer I wrestled at competitive tournaments such as the Virginia Beach Duals, providing me the opportunity to compete against nationally ranked wrestlers. That experience showed me that with focus and hard work, I have what it takes to compete at the next level.
Even though I was disappointed with how my season ended this year, I am thankful that I had the chance to help my team win the league championship for the first time in over a decade. This success fuels my love for the sport and reaffirms my desire to compete in college.
I thrive when balancing both academic and physical challenges. I lettered in football and wrestling every year during high school and take the most rigorous academic classes offered. This summer I am working in a lab studying gene therapy, while juggling the commitment of football.
I am looking for a school that will offer exposure to cutting edge scientific research. Athletically, I am excited by the prospect of continuing my wrestling career and would love to find a school where I would have the opportunity to improve and compete at the next level.
