It's truthfully surreal that the next chapter in my life has come where I must look forward at a possible college to continue my studies and wrestling career. My journey in the sport started when I was 6 years old in my local novice league. Over a decade later and I am still pursuing that sport and working everyday to enhance my technique, reaction time, and strength. I always looked up to the great names of wrestling like Dan Gable or Dave Schultz but some of the biggest aspirations I had were to be like my Uncle and Father. They both wrestled at Phillipsburg High School and were apart of arguably one of the best eras of the schools program. These role models gave me the aspiration to push myself to become the highest caliber athlete I can and in my opinion I have a lot left in the tank before I can step away from competing in the sport. Wrestling is truly like no other high school sport. The sense that once you step on that mat there are no excuses you are the only deciding factor in whether you are going to give everything you have into 6 minutes and whether you leave the victor or not there is only self satisfaction with your performance.
That is probably the best way to put my game plan when I step on the mat, allows look for scoring opportunities and never stop pushing the pace. I have definitely lost several matches on the fact that I won't stop my pressure instead of stalling the rest of the match or just become defensive. That might be my biggest flaw I take away from my "style" of wrestle but I preach that this sport is not about myself and certainly not just about any one person. It's about the progression of this sport as a whole and being able to see its change as the years go by and I want to be apart of the evolution of the sport. To stay away from the boring style of only counter wrestling and never taking your own opportunities. With this I want to showcase my style of wrestling at a bigger stage and at a higher level of the sport. I would love for the opportunity to enhance my technique and overall awareness on the mat under a coach that is willing to make me apart of a new family.
Now moving away from the athletic side of me I am also a strong student in the classroom. To balance out my wrestling I am looking for a college willing to push my academics in the field of engineering so that in turn I can further expand our country as a whole. My creativity and outside the box thinking is why I think I excel in all my classes as well as on the mat. I am looking for a college that can give me opportunities to become a better person and push me to become successful in the real world once I graduate. But once I graduate to also allow opportunities for my career that I might not have received I hadn't chosen that college.
With everything set aside my goal is to find a college that can push me to be the best wrestler I can be and the best student I can be. I am very fortunate to even consider pursuing a sport at the collegiate level and feel blessed for the opportunities I have had in the past to put me where I am now and I'm also blessed for all the opportunities yet to come in my life. Thank you for the time you took out of your day to read this passage and look at my profile as a whole.
