Personal Statement
My name is Grayson Bueno and I reside in Kaneohe, Hawaii. In Hawaii, baseball is more than a pastime it is part of our culture and provides a venue for families, friends and communities to form fellowships. Baseball has always been a huge part of my life and my goal as I begin the next chapter of my life is to play at a collegiate level while pursuing a degree in either criminal justice or sports medicine/rehabilitation.
I let my instinct and fearless spirit guide me on the field. I have experience playing multiple positions; however, I am most comfortable playing center and left field. I am accurate with tracking the ball in the air and my speed and agility aid in making difficult plays. My coaches tell me that I am highly disciplined, always listening and willing to learn and do whatever is needed for the team. Although I am not a seasoned pitcher, I was recruited to pitch over the past two seasons, taking me out of my comfort zone, but showing me I have myriad skills beyond those of an outfielder. I always play with heart, giving 110% while providing support and encouragement to my teammates.
I am currently a junior at Damien Memorial School, a private catholic college prepatory school on Oahu. Many of the characteristics I have on the field resonate in the classroom. I have challenged myself academically by enrolling in honors courses as well as courses that would typically be encountered at a college level such as Organic Chemistry. I understand the importance of education and recognize the relationship between baseball and my studies and I always strive to maintain a healthy balance between the two. My goal is to complete my BS in four years and I would consider the opportunity to play college baseball a gift.
Outside of baseball I enjoy spending time with my family. Many of our gatherings revolve around some type of water activity, whether fishing on my uncle’s boat for marlin, diving with my grandfather, or surfing with my aunty; the ocean is my playground.
