Personal Statement

I'm currently playing baseball at Morton Junior College. I have always played multiple sports, but my passion is baseball. I have dreams, like my father, of playing collegiate and professional baseball. With a dad who pitched in the big leagues for the Pittsburgh Pirates and a mom who's been a school teacher for over 27 years, I feel I have learned what it takes to be successful in life. I have learned solid fundamentals and values not only from my parents, but from my teachers and coaches too. I believe I'm an excellent candidate for your team because I am committed to being a great student and a valuable teammate by working hard in the classroom and on the field. My love of the game and passion for getting better is what separates me from other recruits.

Brett Velon, director of BSF Sports Performance: Brett is a 2007 graduate of Carl Sandburg and played collegiately at Joliet Junior College and Robert Morris University. After Brett finished his playing career, he obtained his CSCS (Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist) and also became a Precision Nutrition Certified Level One Coach. In the fall of 2016, Brett interned for Cressey Sports Performance (CSP) for 4 months in Jupiter, FL learning the in’s and out’s of the most recognized baseball specific training facility in the country. Not to name drop but high end MLB players such as Max Scherzer, Corey Kluber, Noah Syndergaard, Jason Degrom and many others train at CSP every off-season. Upon returning back from Florida in January of 2017, Brett was offered a full-time job with CSP-Florida and turned it down to grow and take over our sports performance business here at the dome.
