My name is Jack Desmond and I will graduate in 2022 from Glenbard West High School (Glen Ellyn, IL) and currently have a 5.6 / 5.0 GPA through the end of my sophomore year. I’m a 6’1” 185 lb catcher and would love to play baseball at the next level.
On the field, I am a leader and take the initiative to keep my team in a position to win every single game. For example, when our team does strength training, I make sure to continually push everyone to do the best they can, even the upperclassmen. Even though I am primarily a catcher, I am a utility player. I can play almost every position and play it well.
If you want to know a bit about my character, I’m the kid you will see in the weight room six to seven days a week. I also bring my lunch to school so I can keep on a strict diet related to healthy eating. I’m also not someone who’s easily rattled in the face of adversity. In fact, I often do my best work in uncertain circumstances. For example, during the Spring 2020 term that was split between in-class learning and e-learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I still gave my full commitment to my studies and was even able to elevate two borderline grades to the top level. Both of those classes were AP courses. I also earned a special award in honors Spanish for my outstanding performance in the new e-learning environment.
As a leader, while I want to personally succeed in this game, I also want others to succeed at the same time and will push others to always put in their best effort. At the end of the game, the only thing that matters is a win for your team. As much as I would love to see 4-4 in the stat book, I would much rather see 1-0 in my team’s record book. I am willing to put myself on the line for the sake of the team. Many people will say what I just said. But I mean it; the team comes first in my mind. I’m a team player.
But overall, I play the game because I love it and can’t wait to bring this same grit, passion, and leadership to the next stage in my career.
